Welcome to my blog!! My blog is about Panama retirement. Here I will share my experience with you and hopefully I can help and inform you about Panama retirement.
I'm from California, USA and have been living in Panama for the past year. I had worked for my local police department for the past 23 years and because of the bad economy I was forced in to early retirement. It was hard enough taking care of my family on a Police man's salary but things got even harder once I retired. I have 3 teenage kids and a wife to take care of and on a fixed income its almost impossible. Some of my co-workers which had also been forced into early retirement had decided to retire in Panama. One of them had already bought a house in Panama City and another was in the process of moving there. I had always heard great things about Panama, so I started doing some research. I found out about the Panama Piensionado Program and all the benefit that it offers, like:
* 50% off entertainment, such as movies, theater, concerts, and sporting events
* 30% off bus, boat, and train fares
* 25% off airline tickets
* 50% off hotel stays from Monday through Thursday
* 30% off hotel stays from Friday through Sunday
* 25% off at restaurants
* 15% off at fast-food restaurants
* 15% off hospital bills (if no insurance applies)
* 10% off prescription medicines
* 20% off medical consultations
* 15% off dental and eye exams
* 20% off professional and technical services
* 50% off closing costs for home loans
* And moreā¦
The cost of living in Panama is very low, We sold our home in California and were able to buy a beautiful beach front home and we have a golf course right in our back yard. I never dreamed I would be able to live like this and not work. now I can dedicate time to my children and they really love it here. Its really not that hard to get use to living here my family has adjusted very well, Here in Panama they have very good private bi-lingual schools, the crime rate is very low, you really don't have to know Spanish to live here because most people speak English.
